Kiplin Hall was the country seat of George Calvert, founder of Maryland, USA, who was also Secretary of State to James I.
Since the Hall was built in the 1620s, it has been owned by 4 families related by blood or marriage – the Calverts, Crowes, Carpenters and Talbots. Each family left their stamp on the house, altering the buildings to suit their needs. They brought furnishings, paintings and personal possessions and much of these collections remain. The Hall’s interior is now a fine example of a late 19th century Victorian country house, which retains characteristics of its Jacobean beginnings. Really interesting house with gardens that are undergoing restoration and award winning tea room – yummy cakes!
