A glory of English Baroque architecture
This early 18th-century church is one of the glories of English Baroque architecture.
The Trust only cares for the lavish Chandos Mausoleum that was added to the church in 1736. It has a magnificent monument by master carver Grinling Gibbons.
The walls and ceiling of the Mausoleum are lavishly decorated with a rare and remarkable example of 18th-century illusionistic wallpaintings in an English parish church by artist Gaetano Brunetti to complement the tomb of the 1st Duke of Chandos.
There are also hatchments in the ante-room.
