A haven for walkers in the beautiful Cover valley

Few churches can compare with the stunning setting of Coverham, lying low in the valley of the River Cover in the Dales and offering a haven for walkers and many other visitors.

This handsome stone church has a large churchyard – it was an early Christian site and nearby are the few remains of Coverham Abbey.

The building is of 13th-century origin and has a calm, light interior. There have been 14th and 17th century additions and the tower is 16th century. There was also much Victorian rebuilding and most fittings date from that period.

There are interesting monuments and tombs in the churchyard.
