A rare church built in the reign of Mary I
The Old Church at Langho was completed in 1557. It is a rarity, for few churches were built in the reign of Mary I (1516-1558).
Much of the stonework, including carvings, windows, plinths, piscina and credence, is of high quality and almost certainly came from the recently dissolved Whalley Abbey nearby, as did the main roof timbers and fragmentary Medieval glass in the chancel.
The set of late 17th-century bench ends, with carved dates and initials is exceptional.
