Milton Abbey is set in a superb Capability Brown landscape, and has a fascinating history – look up the grass steps to the stunning chapel in the woods where Athelstan, the first King of all England, prayed.  It is best approached from Hilton for the breathtaking view, or on foot (1/2 mile) from picturesque Milton Abbas.  Open 9-5 daily, accessed through Milton Abbey School grounds.  Needs better signage, visitor facilities, access and parking, but a real gem in the heart of Dorset.
