Follow the brown signs

Admire the glittering mansion of Montacute House adorned with chimneys and parapets, oozes Elizabethan elegance. In the longest Long Gallery of its kind you’ll come face to face with the ancestors in a display of over 60 portraits from the National Portrait Gallery. If needlework’s your thing there’s also a fantastic collection of samplers and tapestries. And there are even several walks to choose from: A short stroll through the garden along the wobbly hedges to a 4-mile walk including the Lime Avenue and St. Michael’s Hill.
