The only 17th-century brick tower in Norwich

The rare and distinctive 17th-century brick tower of St Augustine is the only one of its kind in Norwich.

This Medieval city church, which sits next to 17th-century almshouses to the north of the city, also has kaleidoscopically bright Victorian stained glass, set into Perpendicular windows.

Inside there are two plain, but significant, monuments one to Matthew Brettingham, architect of Holkham Hall, and the other to a textile manufacturer, Thomas Clabburn, erected by ‘600 weavers’.

St Augustine’s is one of three CCT churches in Norwich.
